Dar es Salaam. The fate of the leader of Glory of Christ Tanzania Church, Bishop
Josephat Gwajima, who faces charges of illegal possession of firearm will be known come
July 23 when the Kisutu Resident Magistrate Court will deliver judgment on the case.
Resident magistrate Cyprian Mkeha set the date on Wednesday after both the defence
and prosecution closed their cases.
In the case, Bishop Gwajima is charged along his security guard and his assistants,
George Mzava, Yeconia Bihagaze and Godfrey Milulu. He also faces the count of failure
to keep firearm and ammunitions in safe custody while his co­accused faces charges of
illegal possession of firearm.
Prosecution alleged that on between March 27 and 29, last year, in Dar es Salaam, the
Bishop, being a licensed person to possess a pistol and its three rounds of ammunition
and 17 others of shotgun, he left the firearm and the ammunitions in the hands of
unauthorized people. Bishop Gwajima’s co­accused Mr Mzava, Mr Bihagaze, Mr Milulu
are alleged to have been found with a pistol and 20 rounds of ammunition in March 29
last year at TMJ hospital, Mikocheni Dar es Salaam.
Prosecution was represented by State Attorney Shadrack Kimaro while advocate Peter
Kibatala defended the accused at the case that started September 10 last year. In his
defense, Gwajima told the court he presented himself to the police immediately after
learning, through social media, that they were looking for him.
He said he went to police with a bag which had his firearm.

Bishop Gwajima told the court that he learnt that law enforcers were looking for him on
March 26, 2015 when he was in Arusha for a religious mission.
He told the court that he decided to return in Dar es Salaam on the next day and he
straight went to the office of the Zonal Crime Officer (ZCO) to ascertain if the police
were indeed looking for him.
He acknowledged that noted that 17 rounds of shotgun ammunitions found in his bag
belonging to him and added that he legally own the firearms for his safety
